The band is interviewed by the hilarious DJ (who sounds like a stereotypical early 90's rock DJ) while they launch into spontaneous jams, musical jokes, and even a few full songs. The DJ uses a portable mic and goes around talking to the guys, while much laughing and jokes ensue. At one point, Portnoy says something to the effect of, "This is what our soundchecks sound like." He also mentions that he's playing a four or five piece drumkit (it was rented by the radio station). The blues jams are amazing, especially when the DJ tells Kevin Moore to take a solo. He rips it up! In another part of the show, after playing a bit of an Iron Maiden song, the band jams on a very familiar riff. It was the seed of what would eventually become "6:00", long before Awake was even thought of! The levels are a bit hot in places, causing distortion (this was present on the source tape), but overall the show is very listenable. High Hiss Reduction and Normalization were applied in Cool Edit Pro, but there is still some very noticeable hiss in some of the interview portions. This was likely because of the portable mic used by the DJ, and could not be removed without severely altering the sound. At the beginning of d1t07 (Interview Part 3), there is a radio station ID which cuts into the middle of Kevin Moore speaking. It was like that on my source tape (likely where a tape flip occured on the master tape). I made a few edits where there were extended periods of silence, but otherwise what you have here is exactly what is on the source tape. This show is a real treat for DT fans. Enjoy!
